Nisita's Blog Writing Learning Story

Learners: Nisita                                                                    Learning Coach: DWilkes
Learning Area: Literacy     Vision Principle: Capable & Connected         Date: Term 3&4
Learning Observed
Nisita began blogging in Term 3.  Her blog has various posts on a diverse range of topics and she also has a number of comments from her blog buddy and other classmates.  We spent time learning to write quality comments using a ‘comment sandwich’ and Nisita is developing her capability to do this on her blog buddy’s blog and thus can connect authentically with other learners.  Nisita’s posts are evidence of how she connects with the things in which she enjoys, whether at home or at school.  She has learned to embed images into posts which enhances their readability.  Nisita has enjoyed reading our Learning Habitat 1 blog as well and has collaborated to construct some posts with her hapu group.  It has been fantastic to review Nisita’s posts since the beginning of term 3 to see how her capability at writing is improving. Some posts of interest were her ‘7 Wonders of the World’,  ‘All About Diwali’ and ‘Capable Playing’ posts because her passion, values and sense of adventure are evident. She regularly blogs using acrostic poems so I encourage her to try some different styles of poems and genres of writing.  I would also now encourage Nisita to co-construct blog posts over the holidays with her family and continue to visit classmates blogs to leave comments.

Next Learning Steps
  • label or ‘tag’ each post so they are searchable in the future
  • preview the post before publishing to ensure the images are the most appropriate size
  • proofread each post by reading it out loud, to a buddy at school or a parent at home to develop capabilities at catching punctuation and grammatical errors
  • ensure the quantity and quality of each post are up to standard (aiming for a minimum of 6 quality sentences)
  • continue to practice using the comment sandwich to provide feed forward to classmates
  • respond to comments on her posts
  • write comments on every learning story her Learning Coaches post
  • ensure images are licensed for reuse (creative commons copyright)

The Great Wall of China

Capable playing

 Capable
Always be capable
Playing capable
Always show yonger learners how to do things.
Be good rolemodles
Learning to be more capable
Easy to be capaable

                                            What is capable playing ?

Capable playing is when you are playing and put away your equipment after you lay with it not when you leave your equipment anywhere.

How to show if you are capable at playing?

Showing how to be capable at playing is also when you help younger learners to pack their equipments and to show them how to pack away their equipments if they don't know.Being capable is also when you are being a rolemodle and putting away all the equipment's back where it belongs that you see laying around after iBreaks ends.

All about Diwali

Diwali is a Festival of Lights and where we put on henna to represent our culture and one of our gods have a chance to come and visit our houses. We buy our Indian costumes to where it on that day.Diwali gets celebrated by millions of people in the world. We also do fireworks on that day which also represents the Festival of Lights.

Before Diwali we have to clean our house including outside concreats and underneath the beds.So our houses are clean. We also make sweets and give th sweets out to others before or after Diwali. When it comes to Diwali we light lamps all around the house .

There are lots of thing we need before Diwali like water lilies for our God.Diwali is also about spending time with our families.

We also make something that is called a rangoli we put lots of patterns just like we put on henna. The only difference between rangoli and henna is that we don't put on henna paste we put on coloured powder to make it colourful and we put rangoli on the floor and the power is dry. We put flowers on the design.

The reason I like Diwali is because we get to make sweets and we get to put on henna.

Personal Identity iExperience

Learner: Nisita Sharma                                                   Date: October 2015
Learning Area: iExperience - Identity                             Learning Coach: John Dyer
Learning Observed
A good afternoon of learning in which we discussed what identity is and what it means to each of us. I became involved in a conversation with Nisita and Neeha around our names, their meaning and whether our names impact on our identity. Nisita talked about the meaning behind her name and it’s cultural significance. We also discussed elements of our identity that we are born with vs those that are learned as we grow. Nisita demonstrated maturity and confidence when sharing her thoughts and opinions. Well Done!
Evidence of learning

Neha and Nisita spoke with confidence about personal identity and what it means to them. What a great way to start the term. You can be very happy with yourselves. Well done.

Key Competencies/Vision Principles being demonstrated

Thinking - Making sense of information, experiences and ideas.
Using language, symbols, and texts - Making sense of words, numbers and images.
Managing self - knowing when to lead, when to follow and when to act independently.
Relating to others - Interacting effectively in a range of contexts.
Participating and contributing - Being actively involved in school and the community

Curious
Collaborative
Connected
Capable
Next Learning Steps
I would encourage Nisita to look more at the meaning of her name, its origin and the names of others. It would be interesting to see if there are any observable links between identity traits and names, and whether people become stereotypes of their names or whether it has nothing to do with it. Let’s see what results in the coming lessons!

Nisita, Alex and Vrishti's 3D Printing Learning Story

Learners: Vrishti, Alex & Nisita    Learning Coach: T.Dillner            Date: 21.9.15
Learning Area: Technology - 3D Printing
Learning Observed
Vrishti, Alex and Nisita chose to participate in 3D Printing during iExperience during Week 7-10 this term. We initially learnt about the Thinker’s Key called ‘BAR’. BAR stands for Bigger, Add, Replace. To practise, the learners had to pick either a pen, lunch box or tennis racquet to make a feature bigger, add to the item and replace something. The learners had as much creative license as they needed and then they reflected on how functional the item had become - could it still be used for its original purpose?
The next stage was to come up with an item that we use at school and repeat the BAR process. Vrishti, Alex and Nisita decided to make a new version of a pencil case.
Vrishti, Alex and Nisita had to use the website TinkerCad to design their new and improved pencil case. They had to use the pre-existing shapes to form their 3D model which was then printed out by our LH1 3D printer.
After analysing their printed model, the girls were able to write a description about who would use it, why they designed it and what its features were. They also spent some time reflecting on improvements and redesigning it on TinkerCad to show these changes.
Evidence of learning

IMG_0700.JPG
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Vrishti, Alex and Nisita were collaborative during this process by sharing ideas and coming up with other ways to show creativity (Thinking, Participating & Contributing). They demonstrated curiosity by engaging with the entire technology process of designing, making, redesigning and evaluating. Vrishti, Alex and Nisita were connected as they were able to show their learning in three different mediums (paper, digital and printed model).
Next Learning Steps
  • Complete the second design on TinkerCad and print if time allows.
  • Use the 3D printer as a component of an iExplore.
  • Teach another learner how to use TinkerCad.

What is summer?

Summer is a warm season just after spring finishes.Summer starts from December to February.

I like summer because it is really warm in summer. I did umbrella for shade because it helps keep cold. Making ice blocks and ice cream is my favourite thing to do in summers mostly. Summer is fun because I get to play on my in the garden. Revisiting the beaches is fun because we can swim in the water.
